Il Piccolo, 16 December 2008: My husband, killed by brake dust.
Roberto, who died at the age of 46, worked on mechanical repairs in a public works garage.
Santina Persich tells the journalist the story of Roberto's terrible suffering, the reasons behind his illness and the indifference of public bodies towards their plight. She points out that Roberto was exposed to asbestos dust on a daily basis at work in a mechanical workshop, with no protection and that when Roberto sought damages from his former employer, they were offered silence as a response.
They were sadly met with the same silence from public institutions that refused the Persich family any compensation help pay for the costly medicines needed for Robert’s condition. In fact, on a few occasions it was Roberto's doctors themselves that met his medical expenses.
Mrs Persich asks the readers of the newspaper to support her in her fight for justice for her husband's sad death.
